TThese guidelines apply to all exams including semester, final exams, special exams, online exams, and final stage supplementary exams.

Exclusion from exams

You may be excluded from a final exam in a subject for any of the following reasons:

  • Unauthorised absence from class

  • Failure to meet subject requirements, for example, not submitting assignments, or failing to attend class or mid-semester tests

  • Academic misconduct

  • Non-academic misconduct

  • General misconduct.

Misconduct, cheating, copying, plagiarism

While studying at UTS College you are expected to maintain high standards of academic honesty and integrity. You will be penalised if you seek to gain unfair advantage by copying another student’s work.

Misconduct during exams relates to actions that may:

  • Give you an unfair advantage, such as cheating

  • Unfairly disadvantage other students, such as disrupting an exam

  • Demonstrate failure to follow the instructions of authorised supervisors.

During your exam you must not:

  • Help or receive assistance from other students

  • Request the loan of, borrow or lend materials or devices to other students

  • Bring any materials into the examination room other than those specified

  • Use computer software or devices other than those specified.

Please note that you can’t use a dictionary during your exam.

  • Marks will only be awarded for your own work. Plagiarised or copied material will result in a fail grade. All written work must be submitted online via TurnItIn

If a charge of academic misconduct during an exam is bought against you, there are five levels of penalty:

  1. Reprimand

  1. Reduction in marks

  1. Fail grade for the assessment event

  1. Fail grade for the subject

  1. Exclusion from UTS College.

You’ll find more about this in the Non-Academic Misconduct Policy and the penalties that apply for non-academic misconduct in the Non-Academic Misconduct Procedure.
