What happens at Orientation?

Orientation covers all the important things to know and do before you start, such as enrolling into your classes, getting your timetable and collecting your books. Plus, you’ll meet loads of other students and find out where everything is around campus.  You can also join a range of fun activities and excursions to help you settle in and begin making friends.

Below is an overview of when each Orientation session takes place. Please check the information in your Orientation and Academic Preparation letter for details on when and where you need to arrive.

Orientation information may change due to unforeseen circumstances, so please keep checking your UTS email account and this webpage for the most up-to-date information.

What do I bring to Orientation?

  1. Your Orientation Letter
  2. Your completed Registration Form (Foundation students only)
  3. Your passport or birth certificate for identification, along with a certified copy
  4. If you don't have a passport, please also bring one of the following: Driver’s Licence, NSW Photo Card, Proof of Age Card, or High School Student Card

For International Students:

  1. If not already provided, a certified copy of a document confirming your Permanent Residency status (if applicable)
  2. Original copies of your academic transcripts, IELTS/TOEFL/PTE (academic) results.

What is Academic Preparation Week?

After Orientation, everyone who is about to start either UTS Foundation Studies or Diploma Program attend Academic Preparation Week. It’s your first step towards academic success at UTS Insearch.

Just like Orientation, it’s compulsory you attend because you learn exactly what’s expected from you (and what you can expect from your course). Here are some of the sessions covered:

  • Presentations and introductions by your program managers, subject coordinators and teachers.
  • Course-specific activities (organised by your Program Managers) with your classmates and teachers, such as team-building exercises, excursions and practical activities.
  • Introduction to the aims and objectives of all your subjects, so you know what’s required and what’s coming up.
  • If you’re doing any subjects that require a diagnostic test, you’ll do it in Academic Preparation Week.

You’ll receive your personalised Academic Preparation Week schedule at Orientation.
