English entry requirements

You will study at the level which matches your current English language ability. Throughout levels AE1-AE5 you will study key themes that incorporate various interesting topics.

After completing the appropriate English level you can gain direct entry* into UTS Foundation Studies, UTS College diplomas and graduate certificates, or UTS degree programs without the need to sit another English exam. Please refer to the diagram below for details about our Academic English levels and entry requirements. Find more information about accepted English qualifications here.

IELTS or other acceptable high-stakes test results, and VEPT tests, are valid for 12 months only for students who want to study English, or 24 months for students who want to study UTS Foundation Studies or one of our diploma or graduate certificate courses. Find out more about IELTS testing at UTS College

At home testing

All tests used for admission into the English program must be undertaken in person at a testing centre, except for IELTS Online, which can be taken at home. Students can take the IELTS Academic Test online from home or anywhere with a private space and a stable internet connection. Find out more about the IELTS Online test here.

IELTS One Skill Retake

Students can now reattempt one of the four skills from each complete IELTS test: Listening, Reading, Writing or Speaking, providing another opportunity to meet your English language requirements without the need to retake a complete IELTS test. Find out more about the IELTS One Skill Retake here.

English language course placement

UTS College is committed to providing a high-quality education and learning experience for students. As such, students may be asked after a course commences, to undertake a VEPT to ensure that they are placed appropriately and therefore studying the correct level based on their current English language skills.

*English and academic entry requirements apply. Please refer to the courses page of our website for course information, entry requirements and articulation details. Successful completion of AE5 satisfies the English language admission requirements for most UTS undergraduate and postgraduate degrees. For specific details of UTS English entry requirements, please refer to the individual faculty pages on the UTS website.

NB: VEPT is accepted for entry into an Academic English course to ensure students are placed correctly according to their current level of English. VEPT results are not accepted for direct entry into academic programs.
