GUIDELINES TO PLACEMENT
IN INSEARCH ENGLISH LANGUAGE COURSE LEVELS

ACADEMIC ENGLISH PATHWAY (AEP) / DEEP

GENERAL ENGLISH (GE)

If you have a current IELTS or TOEFL score (no older than 12 months), you use the table above to see at which level you will need to start and the minimum number of weeks of English you will need to study before you start your chosen INSEARCH academic course and UTS undergraduate/postgraduate degree.

If you do not have a current IELTS or TOEFL score, you will need to sit the INSEARCH placement test on the first day of term (orientation day).

You will be given a test at the end of each level of study to determine your progression to the next level.

In some cases, you can be accepted into a higher level of the English language course if you agree to undertake 40 hours of additional part-time writing courses over a ten week period, such as Introduction to Academic Writing and Writing for IELTS.

STUDENT VISAS

The above guidelines are based on INSEARCH academic advice. In certain countries Australian immigration guidelines may determine the length of English study required. Please check first with your local Australian immigration office to obtain guidelines for your country.
