Homestay

What is Homestay?

Homestay is a cultural exchange in which a student visiting or temporarily residing in another country lives with a local family in the host country. Homestay students pay to live in the home as well as any expenses they incur. Homestay is also the most popular accommodation option for International Students.

Homestay

Why choose Homestay?

  • It's the perfect way to make new friends (or as we say "mates") - many students stay in touch with their host Australian families long after they leave.
  • For those who are learning English - It's the perfect way to practice your English language skills everyday.
  • Homestay students can experience what it's really like living with an Australian family. You can learn all about their family life and values; interact with people of different ages; and share their own culture and interests.
  • Ideal for students who are under 18 years old - so you have a family to look out for you while you are here.

Where are Homestay families normally located?

Our homestay families are located close to public transport and within an hour travelling to UTS:INSEARCH. The normal travelling time is 20 - 40 minutes. The type of homestay and availability will affect distance. Big houses with a nice garden and swimming pool are not found close to the city, whereas apartments are. Australian public transport is of a good quality, regular and well priced. Families will show students how to commute to and from UTS:INSEARCH

What about meals?

The Homestay service includes 2 meals a day on weekdays and 3 meals a day on weekends.

Your safety and well-being

Our Homestay team from UTS:INSEARCH stays in regular contact with you to ensure your well-being throughout your time with your Australian family. All Homestay families go through rigorous checks by our team before they can become a "homestay family".
Students under 18 years of age are required to use the Homestay service or they need to arrange a carer through Australian Government - Department of Immigration and Citizenship.

Airport welcome service

UTS:INSEARCH homestay provides an airport welcome for students arriving from overseas and those staying in the Sydney Metropolitan area.  You will need to provide your flight details and the address of your accommodation before arrival. (Make sure you request this as part of service request process with our Homestay team.)
