ENGLISH LEARNING CENTRE
The high-quality audio equipment and computers on-hand in the INSEARCH Learning Centre allow you to get the most out of self-directed learning. They also help you to take full advantage of the Centre’s complete range of IELTS learning materials.
The Learning Centre is available to INSEARCH students both full-time & part-time. It is equipped with high-quality audio equipment and computers for self-learning. Over 95% of full time students now use the Learning Centre for extra study and learning outside of the classroom.
All English students are expected to spend an additional five hours per week in self-access learning in the INSEARCH Learning Centre, where English language teachers are on hand to help you.
Resources
The Learning Centre has a large range of books and kits available to students, covering topics such as grammar, reading, writing, listening, dictionaries and IELTS. There are also major Sydney daily newspapers, magazines, journals and general readers. INSEARCH publishes a range of IELTS preparation materials which are also available in the Learning Centre.
Full-time students can either borrow these resources or use them in the Learning Centre. In addition we have computers, videos and DVDs as well as audio cassette material and head sets. The Learning Centre is equipped with high-quality audio facilities and computers.
Staff
The Learning Centre administrator works full-time and can assist you to find books or answer any general questions.
We also have a teacher who works in the Learning Centre. The teacher’s role is to assist you with any English or class work you may have. The teacher is available from 10.00am to 6.00pm to assist you.
Discussion Groups
For those students who are interested in improving their speaking skills, the learning centre organises discussion groups, six times a term. The groups are run by the learning centre teacher and they cover a different topic every week. They are run in weeks 2, 3 and 4 every Tuesday and Thursday at 11.00am and 2.30pm.
IELTS Tutorials
Every Wednesday from 1.30pm to 2.30pm there is an IELTS teacher in the learning centre who can assist students with any IELTS questions or concerns they may have. To see the IELTS tutor you must make a booking in advance. Please see the learning centre staff to assist you.
Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL)
To assist all students with English language learning we also have a number of programs and associated websites on the student computers - Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL). There are a number of programs on the desktop which students can access and from there you will also find other websites which cater for students who are learning English. There are activities and programs for all levels of the Academic English Program. The learning centre computers also have the Cambridge Advanced Learners’ dictionary and the Longmans dictionary - very powerful dictionaries which can check spelling, give a range of vocabulary choices for your writing and which also provide grammar exercises. |
