How do the diploma programs compare?

Accelerated (8 months) – The fast track program

  • The fastest way to get into a UTS degree. However the intense workload means it will not be suitable for everyone.
  • Same subjects as first year UTS. Students will usually study the same content as first year UTS students.
  • Guaranteed entry* into a UTS degree. Based on successful completion of the diploma.
  • Opportunity to fast track into second year at UTS. Depending on the course you choose.

Standard (12 months)

  • Same content as Accelerated but paced out over 12 months. As this diploma is set over 12 months, it allows students more time to perfect their academic studies whilst adjusting to Australian education expectations.
  • Same subjects as first year UTS. Students will usually study the same content as first year UTS students.
  • Guaranteed entry* into a UTS degree. Based on successful completion of the diploma.
  • Opportunity to go straight into second year at UTS. Depending on the course you choose.

Extended (16 months) – The all-inclusive preparation program with English

  • Same subjects as first year UTS, PLUS Academic English/ Academic Communication and additional enabling subjects. Students will usually study the same content as first year UTS but in the first semester of this diploma they will also undertake Academic English (international students) or Academic Communication (Domestic students) and a range of subjects designed to prepare you to succeed as you progress through your studies.
  • International students, you can boost your English skills. Academic English is incorporated into the first semester of this diploma so it perfect for students who need to boost their level of English but don’t want to wait to start their Academic Studies. The English component of the first semester of the Extended Diploma program needs to be successfully completed before progression into further subjects. Students will study English classes in the morning and academic classes in the afternoon – the best of both worlds.
  • Sets a gradual pace for new students to Australia. In the 16 month diploma, the workload in the first semester has been set at the right pace for new students. This means students will have enough time to study hard and do well in their subjects whilst settling into a new Australian home.
  • Domestic students, you can boost your academic communication skills to a university level. This program offers an Academic Communication subject in the first semester, designed to help boost students communication skills so they will be confident studying at a university level. Some of the topics covered include: essay writing, research techniques, effective note-taking, performance and presentation skills, information and digital publication skills, and university style referencing.
  • Subjects in the first semester will prepare students to tackle difficult subjects. Enabling subjects in the first semester will prepare students with the extra skills needed to tackle harder subjects. Subjects such as Accounting for Business, Physics for Engineering, and Maths for Science have been identified as subject areas some students need more support with. This means your chance of success is greatly increased as you progress through the rest of your diploma and university studies.
  • Students will benefit from a blended learning approach. This means that students will benefit from a combination of using state-of the-art technology, traditional classroom teaching and online self-paced learning. This innovative approach will allow for a more engaging and interactive student learning experience that will help improve learning outcomes.
  • Guaranteed entry into a UTS degree. This is based on successful completion of the diploma.
  • Opportunity to enter second year at UTS. Depending on the course you choose.
